  • Fantastic production of "Curious" last night. Having seen the West End production and the one recently at The Miller Centre I can say it was a marvellous show. The set with lighting and computer effects were just like the West End version and the lead played by Christopher Backway was incredible, along with the choreography . It is great to have such talented amateur local theatre. Well done to all involved.

Young Frankenstein

We have just heard that our production of Young Frankenstein has been awarded "Show of the Year 2024" at The Minack Theatre.

Rebecca Thomas, the theatre's director wrote us this glowing message "

I am just getting in touch to give you the wonderful news that Young Frankenstein has been chosen as our 'Show of the Year' for the 2024!

Many many congratulations to you all for such a wonderful show, it was fun, vibrant, bursting with talent and with a fantastic set to match. Your company were a pleasure to have around for the week and I do hope that you all enjoyed the experience as much as we all did and our audience.

Best wishes and we look forward to welcoming you back again in the future!

Obviously we are extremely pleased to be given this accolade. Huge congratulations to everyone involved - the Production Team, the Cast, the Backstage Team and the Tour Management Team. You all contributed to making it such a suceess in all departments.

As you can see from the quotes below, the show was well recieved at the time!

  • I had the biggest grin throughout the show. Great acting. Fabulous evening. Thank you
  • Thanks so much for coming to Cornwall, hugely enjoyed the show last nigh, hooted with laughter!
  • Just seen the play. It was excellent, and the rain held off for it too. It has made me want to watch the movie again. It is a shame you could not have had a platform that raised up in the air to do the "Elevate me" joke" but the minack and the budget would not have stretched to that I guess. Brilliant show!
  • Saw it last night! Absolutely amazing! Fab cast! We really enjoyed it.. Thank-you

The following quote is from Mark of The Herfortshire Players who were on at The Minack the following week:-

But before our get in tomorrow morning I was lucky enough to get a ticket comped by the previous show.
The Mitre Players from Croydon have been down all week with their musical production of Mel Brooks', Young Frankenstein.
This was high camp performed by an amateur company at the top of its game.
Bearing in mind they’ve been running for a week, all the voices were strong, rich and the ensemble harmonies were lovely. The 3 leading ladies, Amy Hayes as Inga, Jo Morrison as Frau Blücher and Katy Reid as Elizabeth Benning were standouts, with all the leads showing marvellous comic timing, but Ziggy Szafranski as the Monster was genius.
Being a Mel Brooks show, there was not an ounce of political correctness. Near the knuckle doesn’t cover it and, if you like your art low (in the nicest possible way), this was an absolute gem.
5⭐️ from me.
As a thank you I helped them in their get out, which down here involves a chain of people up many many steps and I got to chat to a number of the members of the company. Lovely people with a strong bond.
You’ve missed it this year, but given the chance to see one of their shows, jump at it!

IT’S ALIVE! From the creators of the record-breaking Broadway sensation The Producers comes this monster musical comedy. Minack regulars, The Mitre Players will be returning to the magnificent Minack Theatre with a wickedly inspired re-imagining of the Frankenstein legend based on Mel Brooks’ classic comedy film masterpiece that is Young Frankenstein.

The story follows bright young Dr. Frankenstein (that’s Fronk-en-steen) as he attempts to complete his grandfather’s masterwork and bring a corpse to life. Together with his oddly shaped and endearing helper Igor (that’s Eye-gor), his curvaceous, yodelling lab assistant Inga, Frankenstein succeeds in creating a monster — but not without some (comically) scary and quite often hilarious complications.

Featuring over 20 catchy songs, imaginative choreography, colourful costumes and impressive effects, Mel Brooks combines many of the elements of the 1931 film with his own brand of anarchic, irreverent and risqué humour – you have been warned!

This musical is written by Mel Brooks and contains many of his trademark types of humour. ie akin to a pantomime or Carry On film. Parental guidance recommended.
