Al and WIllie as “Lewis and Clark” were top billed vaudevillians for over forty years. Now they aren’t even speaking. When CBS requests them for a “History of Comedy” retrospective, a grudging reunion brings the two back together, along with a flood of memories, miseries, and laughs.
Willie - Playing age 70+
Living on his own. Bitter and increasingly forgetful, he can’t understand why he can’t get work. He is lonely and miserable and is still holding a grudge against his long-time partner Al.
Al - Playing age 70
Soft spoken and pleasant. Everything that Willie isn’t. Happily settled, living with his daughter. He does have a steely side though and enjoys baiting Willie.
Ben - Playing age 30s – 40s
Willie’s long-suffering nephew. A smart guy who loves and is constantly exasperated by his uncle. He is an agent and has been approached by CBS to get Lewis and Clark back together one last time.
Nurse - Playing age probably 40s
Registered Nurse employed to look after Willie. Appears in Act 2 scene 2. She’s seen it all before and easily copes with Willie and his demands.
Other small parts:
“Patient” in doctor sketch in Act 2 scene 1 (a few lines)
Voice of director in Act 2 scene 1
Assistant director appearing at beginning of Act 2 (a few lines)
